Paul Shugar

Paul is a 2L at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. A Maumee, Ohio, native, he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in 2003. While at Ohio University, Paul served as the sports editor and a staff member of the school’s independent daily newspaper, The Post, and was a member of the Society of Professional Journalists. Under his guidance, The Post’s sports staff won numerous Ohio Associated Press awards, and the Ohio Associated Press also honored his writing with awards, naming him the state’s best sports columnist in 2002. He covered sports as an intern for the Scripps Howard News Service in Washington, D.C., and he also interned at Adams Street Publishing in Toledo, Ohio. After graduating from Ohio University, Paul worked as the assistant sports editor for the Key West Citizen in Florida, a sports staff writer/copy editor for the Yakima Herald-Republic in Washington state, and he  covered ACC basketball and football for the Fayetteville Observer in North Carolina. The North Carolina Press Association, the Associated Press Sports Editors, and the Inland Northwest Society of Professional Journalists have honored his newspaper writing and web site managing with awards. In his first year at Cleveland-Marshall, Paul received two A’s in his legal writing classes. He is the International Law Society’s treasurer and a member of the Environmental Law Society. An Eagle Scout, he also participates in the Law School’s Big Brothers Big Sisters mentorship program. He currently works at Javitch, Block & Rathbone, where he started as a law clerk this past Spring.
